Samsung Galaxy S9 Availability, Pre-ordering, and Pricing

Both the S9 and S9+ are available for pre-order starting on March 2, 2018 and will be available in stores, online, and through the ShopSamsung app on March 16, 2018. If you purchase the S9 directly from Samsung, it will cost $719.99, or 24 payments of $30 per month. The S9+ retails for $839.99, or 24 payments of $35 per month. If you’re interested in purchasing one of the devices through your mobile carrier, each one has varying prices and deals available.

Samsung is also offering a deal for people who are interested in trading up their device. They will accept most devices for a trade-in value of $50-350. However, if you’re wanting the full $350, you’ll have to swap the S8, iPhone 8, or iPhone X. The further back the phone generation you go the less you will get for your trade-in.

Each mobile carrier is offering trade-in deals for the devices as well. Feel free to contact your carrier for information on what sort of value you can get on your eligible device.

A Game-Changing Camera

Samsung has been known for years to have a top of the line camera that excels and exceeds all expectations. The S9 and S9+ are no exception. Samsung is putting a lot of eggs in the camera basket and is boasting that it will be a game changer in the mobile industry.

Dual Aperture

The S9 and S9+ will have a new feature that will help users capture beautiful photos in low light environments. The device will have a dual aperture with an f-stop of either 1.5 or 2.4. What this means is that the lens will open up at two different increments to allow in differing amounts of light in order to better capture the perfect image.

Super Slow Motion

Another new feature on the latest generation of Samsung devices is an amped up Super Slow Motion camera. This time around, the phone is able to capture video at 960 frames per second. There’s also an Auto Motion Detect feature that will start recording the instant the camera recognizes motion. When you’ve captured your incredible SlowMo video, you can add one of 35 different background music selections to perfect the moment.

AR Emoji

The cameras on the S9 and S9+ will come with a new feature that will allow users to create 3D augmented reality models of themselves and loved ones. They are able to analyze a typical 2D image and use it to map out over 100 different facial features to create the 3D model. The image is then saved in an AGIF format, so it is easily shared to pretty much anyone, no matter what device they may be using.


Samsung’s personalized AI assistant has received some upgrades that are integrated right into the camera that will open up a whole new world of features to smartphone users. Using Bixby, you will be able to any number of things such as using Live Translation to instantly translate languages and currency, purchase items you see in real life online through retailers such as Wal-Mart and Sam’s, or point your camera at your meal and keep track of the calories you’re eating.

And Then There’s This…

There are a few other features the S9 and S9+ have that are definitely worth pointing out. Improved audio performance and enhanced connectivity options are bound to entice consumers.


The latest devices have improved audio with AKG tuned speakers and support for Dolby Atmos surround sound. With these features, you’re bound experience a whole new level of entertainment.

SmartThings App

The SmartThings App will be introduced with the S9 and S9+, but will be available on older phones and a whole slew of devices that are IoT capable. With it, users will have a new way to experience a connected home.

Samsung Dex

This is a new feature that will definitely appeal to enterprise customers and gamers. With Samsung Dex, users can place their phone into a dock and turn their mobile device into a full-fledged computer. They will be able to use the phone itself as a trackpad or keyboard while viewing various files, videos, or games on a computer monitor or television screen.
